Retainers

Following orthodontic treatment it is important that your teeth are held in their straightened position. Retainers can either be removable or fixed to the teeth. Now that your teeth are straight, if you do not wear your retainer, your teeth are likely to drift towards their original positions. If this happens it may be difficult, if not impossible, to correct.

Removable Retainers

Removable retainers come in a variety of designs.
At Solihull Orthodontic Centre we usually provide clear plastic guards, that you wear at night to hold your teeth in their straightened position.

 

Fixed Retainers

In some cases where teeth were rotated or very displaced at the start of treatment a fixed retainer may be used.  A thin wire is bonded to the inside surface of the front six teeth. It is not possible to see this wire.
